Choosing a baby name for your child is in many ways helping to create their new identity for the world. Personally I believe that the parents should decide, and not be influenced by anyone, or any third party. Yes you may have a great Aunt Georgina, but that does not mean you need to call your son George.
Now I have nothing against either name as my point is you do not need to follow family tradition. You can if you want to, as long as it is your decision. That means it’s not wise to just settle for any baby name that will suit your grandma’s or auntie’s taste. Make your own decision and never let others influence that.
Some parents do like to follow a family tradition and there is certainly merit in doing that. Just as long as both parents are happy with the final decision, is all that really matters.
I remember a few years ago a cartoon came out called Pochahontas and yes some parents called their daughters that name. Now I don’t know about you, but those girls have had to live with that choice. I know a girl who was called that and she changed it as soon as she turned 18. I can truly understand why.
More Than One Baby Name
Some people opt for one name, some for two and some for three. What I recommend you don’t do is go for any more than that. There was one person in England who gave his child the first name of every player in the Manchester United football team.
Watch Out for Initials
Quite often your child may have to use their initials. Give that a little thought. Ashlee Sharon Scott sounds ok but check out her initials. Stephen Henry Ivan Todd does not quite sound that hot either. So if picking a couple of Christian names, just write out the full initials, and see if that works.
Celebrity Baby Names
Celebrities might get away with odd names for their babies, but can you imagine what can happen to a child called Tixie Tinkerbell? It is a trend that is happening but not one that I would recommend you necessary have to follow.
I thought I would put together a top 10 list of the most popular baby names so far in 2016/2017. Let’s start with the girl’s names:
