The arrival of a new baby is the most wonderful experience. Mainly, most people are looking forward to the new arrival and of course shopping forms a very large part of that. Sometimes there is so much to purchase, that at time it can seem really daunting. Let’s face it, the prices and the expense is also huge.
When a new child on the way, then if you were anything like me, you are probably going to go through a mix of emotions. At first, there will be the sheer joy, excitement and I think the privilege of knowing that you’re bringing another life into this world.
Not many things can top the feeling you got the moment you learned the good news. In fact I would go as far as to say, nothing can quite the surpass the feeling inside, when you find out the news.
The Cost of Having A Baby
When you start to consider the practical side of impending parenthood, you might begin worrying about the financial burden you’re likely to incur. It is a fact that it costs a lot of money to take care of newborns. These feelings are completely normal, as many young parents go through the exact same thing.
I read recently on the BBC Consumer website that the cost of raising a baby is at an all time high. They quoted some research from an insurance company that the average outlay to raise a child from 0 to 21 years was a staggering £222,000 and in dollars that is around $400,000. I think if we considered that before having a baby, we might think twice. The bottom line is though most people will want to have a baby and cost will never put them off, and nor should it in my opinion.
The bottom line is though, we do have babies and somehow they do get raised as best as we can.
Some Tips To Help The Finances
Fortunately, there is a bit of relief available for people in your situation. Many brands, companies, stores, and websites offer free baby items to prospective parents. These so called “freebies” can really add up to substantial savings.
Most of the time, all you have to do to receive these free baby items is sign up for them, so this is a fantastic way to get brand-new products that you can actually use. Now a word of warning, they will get your email address and they will send you emails. Sometimes they can be really good but sometimes they can just get to be a pain in the rear. Don’t forget when that happens, you can always unsubscribe, and the emails will stop.
One tip I would suggest is just to set up another email and use that to subscribe. That is better than giving out your normal email and it keeps your main email free from advertising. It only takes a couple of minutes to set up a free email address, and I would strongly recommend doing that instead of using your own.
When I had my small children , I gained a lot of experience in finding legitimate offers for free baby products. The easiest way to get started is to use the Internet to find companies that send out samples and rebates to expectant Moms and Dads.
All you have to do is think of a particular item that you’d like to try, such as diapers, wipes, or formula, and run a search for special offers. When you find companies or websites willing to send out products, you just follow the instructions provided and you’ll receive your samples within a few weeks.
If you look at my website here you will see that I have included coupon offers from Amazon. There are plenty of these available on other manufacturer websites. It is always worth having a look around to see what is available.
Other Useful Tips
- If you can or are willing to breastfeed then you can save a lot of money on milk, bottles and sterilizers.
- Many Moms now buy second hand and also sell the stuff on afterwards.
- You can get cheap toys at car boot sales, garage sales and in charity shops. My own kids had more fun with a few spatulas and a few old bowls that I had around the kitchen.
Prams & Strollers
It is very tempting to always want the best for your baby. Some of the prams and strollers these days are designed like Formula One cars. There really is no need for that type of expense. Kids grow up real fast, and spending big on these basic items is not necessary. A pram is normally good for a year and then it will not be used any more.
Strollers are needed from about 1-3 depending on the child, so in my opinion, there is no need to spend $300 on some state of the art turbo enhanced stroller. Some parents can not resist the lure though, and if they can afford them, then good luck to them.
The big brands are heavy on the marketing when it comes to new arrivals. Don’t get sucked in to the whole new baby marketing and start to feel guilty. Just because it is on sale does not mean that you actually need it. Try to budget and plan in advance. I know that is not easy, but it will make the world of a difference.
